The Chainsmokers Drop New Song “Everybody Hates Me”

Following up their last two singles in 2018, The Chainsmokers release their newest song this Friday entitled “Everybody Hates Me.”

Like “Sick Boy” and “You Owe Me” before it, “Everybody Hates Me” features heavily introspective and reflective lyrics, looking back on past actions and perceptions from the outside looking in. The main line the chorus, “Walk into the club like everybody hates me,” could be taken as a matter fact, or as a state mind – as in, walk in as if they hate you with an intent to prove them wrong.

Perhaps the most salient verse the track, and the one most directed toward recompense and remorse, is:

I’m a product the internet
And now, I’m face to face with all the voices in my head
I can’t even check the time without facing regret
Why do I still have to mean everything I ever said?
And I’m not trying to be like “poor me,” I made it
I’m just trying to stay normal now that they know what my name is
Yeah, I just wanna drink tequila with my friends
They’re the reason that I still am who I am
