Skrillex doesn’t always speak up on social media, but with the news of Avicii‘s sudden passing
— the producer shared some very personal and heartfelt thoughts.The OWSLA star famously remixed Avicii’s biggest hit ever, “Levels,” and Skrillex’s own take on the classic is arguably one of the only other versions that could ever touch the original. Sadly, this staple in his sets is going to sound quite bittersweet from now on.
“The remix I did of ‘Levels’ hasn’t left my set since I [made] it back in 2011,” Skrillex shares. “Although we weren’t ‘close friends’ I felt this deep sadness through the connection we had through this song.”
He continues, “Tim was truly a genius and an innovator, yet sensitive and humble. This industry can be rough and from afar I saw it take a toll on him. I just wish I could have hugged him more and told him it would be ok. Your music will forever be a part of mine and so many other lives. Maybe that’s the closest thing we have to immortality.”
Another producer, that would only dare play “Levels” if he was in the mood to troll the crowd is deadmau5. He’s notorious for ripping on Avicii, so when the sad news broke today, eyes instinctively shifted over to his social media to see what he’d have to say.
In perhaps one of the most poised online messages we’ve ever seen deadmau5 compose, he shares his true feelings. “My sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to the friends, fans and families of [Avicii] ? Banter aside, nobody can deny what he has accomplished and done for modern dance music and im very proud of him.”
He continues, “I would have enjoyed nothing more than ripping into Avicii well into and beyond our 60’s. Taken away from us far too young. I know he’s at peace somewhere up there getting the last laugh that I spelled his name right this time.”
