Luvcat has unveiled her latest single, ‘Vampire At The Beach,’ a brooding and theatrical track that serves as a precursor to her highly anticipated upcoming EP. The Liverpool-based singer-songwriter continues to weave a narrative of dark romance and cinematic intrigue, further establishing her unique position in the contemporary pop landscape.
The new track is set to feature on Lovebites, an EP described by the artist as a collection of "vampiric love songs and murderous ballads." Scheduled for release on May 22 via AWAL, the project follows the success of her 2025 debut album, Vicious Delicious, but promises a significantly darker thematic shift for the artist.
Cinematic Inspirations and Dark Romance
Reflecting on the inspiration behind ‘Vampire At The Beach,’ Luvcat detailed a past relationship with a "ghostly-looking lover" who held an unsettling influence over her. "I was almost waiting for him to bite my neck," she explained. "He truly had me clamped between his teeth."
The aesthetic of the song was further shaped by the works of Federico Fellini. Luvcat recalled watching a Fellini film and contrasting the "golden bodies dripping with sweat" on an Italian beach with the pale, vampiric nature of her partner. "I was just thinking, I can’t imagine being on a summer holiday with you. You’re a vampire," she remarked.
The track opens with eerie, piano-led verses that evoke imagery of Anacapri and sun-drenched Italian landscapes, before transitioning into a theatrical finale. The lyrics explore themes of eternal devotion and destructive love, with Luvcat singing of a partner who would "fuck me up forever." The accompanying music video, inspired by Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd, further emphasizes the track's macabre elegance.
The Evolution of 'Lovebites'
While her debut material introduced audiences to Luvcat's intoxicating world, Lovebites is intended to offer deeper, more harrowing stories. Among the new tracks is ‘Silent Killer,’ a song born from a near-fatal experience involving a carbon monoxide leak and black mould at her former flat in Camberwell.
"It nearly killed me and two of my bandmates," Luvcat recalled. "I was thinking about how the monoxide and mould could send you so mad that you do something really, really bad." This sense of psychological unraveling permeates the new material, which also features high-profile collaborations with John Cooper Clarke and Pete Doherty.
Live Performances and Summer Festivals
Luvcat is set for a busy summer season, including a support slot for The Waterboys and appearances at major festivals such as the Isle Of Wight Festival, TRNSMT, Boardmasters, and Neighbourhood Weekender. Having previously supported The Libertines and The Last Dinner Party, her live reputation continues to grow following standout sets at Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds.
In a previous interview, Luvcat emphasized her desire to maintain a sense of mystery and intrigue. “I’m drawn to artists that I don’t know everything about,” she stated. “I just wanted to slowly weave this intoxicating world and hopefully get a few people drunk on it.” With the release of ‘Vampire At The Beach,’ that world becomes even more immersive.
