DJM-REC, an iOS app developed by Pioneer to record mixes, will now allow DJs to legally clear their recordings for major streaming services for the first time, thanks to a recent partnership with rights management company Dubset.
It works as follows: a mix is uploaded from the app to Dubset, who analyses it for copyrights. Afterwards, the DJ is able to legally distribute it through Dubset to music streaming services, including Spotify and Apple Music.
When a user plays the DJ mix on these streaming services, appropriate royalties are paid to labels and publishers who own the copyrights.
"This partnership brings together Pioneer, the best-in-class DJ tools company with Dubset, the leader in compliant distribution of DJ mixes and remixes to major music services,” explains Dubset's CEO, Stephen White.
He continues, “A seamless live performance-to-distribution model has been at the top of the DJ communities wish list for a long time, and it is now here.”
