Fresh f his newly released single “,” Calvin Harris is opening up about the change in his sound and his relationship with dance music.

The producer’s dancehall track with PartyNextDoor is the beginning another new sound, even after straying with Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. Now, his whole reasoning behind that shift in his music is explained, thanks to an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats 1 Radio.

“I basically took a year f dance music when I did all the Funk stuff. I thought I didn’t like it anymore… I was like wait, wait, wait. So actually some the best producers in the world are EDM producers, even though they got shit on by everybody, the critics and cool music lovers. I’m sorry, but some the best producers in the world are EDM and some the best producers are Dutch.”

Don’t have to tell us twice.

As for festivals vs. more intimate shows, it’s a no-brainer for Harris…

“All that stuff got a little bit too impersonal. Standing up there and it’s the fireworks and all that stuff, but you’ve got no connection with anyone. And that’s why I actually love playing Vegas at the moment because I get to see people’s faces and get to see people enjoy their night. Those big festival shows which I wasn’t getting into personally other than a bit money and money is, you know, the root all evil.

“I haven’t done any meaningful festivals for years. Almost did one but I didn’t announce it because that’s the sort guy I am. And also because I really might want to go back.”

It seems the Calvin Harris that we know is taking a step back to spend some serious time in the studio. Whatever he comes up with, we’ll definitely be listening.
