In case you haven’t noticed, techno has split into three camps over the past five years or so. Melodic, hardcore, and the deeper, raw side which yours truly finds to be the most interesting of the lot. Sadly, the melodic end of the spectrum has become severely formulaic and oversaturated. Other sub-genres may follow a mold as well, but the aggressiveness and the ominous edge of harder and deeper techno helps keep them on the cutting edge. If you’re here for another month of the techno chart, you’ll likely appreciate those latter qualities in this month’s rundown of what August 2024 had to offer.
