It has been a fruitful week of music discovery from new releases from Durante, Paul Kardos and newcomer Sasheen to a timeless Claptone record, these picks will be blissful to bump this weekend and the rest of your marvelous life. Enjoy the best house music and disco from the first week of fall.

Starting with the beloved Italian DJ and producer Durante‘s rework of Grammy-nominated producer, DJ and mixing engineer Cassian‘s single ‘Open Up’. Out on RÜFÜS DU SOL’s Rose Avenue imprint, the original track was released earlier this summer on Cassian’s highly anticipated debut album Laps. Drawing on his ardor for versatility, Durante retools the emotive single with raw rhythms and melodic chords, garnishing the synth-driven single with addictive percussive textures, delivery that slap we crave.

The duo have shared a close friendship spanning across the studio and the stage. Celebrating the Laps release, Durante took to the virtual stage on Cassian’s album launch live stream, joining label bosses RÜFÜS DU SOL for back-to-back sets unveiling the project. They’ve also previously collaborated on their remix of RÜFÜS’ “Eyes” which appeared on the band’s widely-praised SOLACE REMIXED album last year.

Durante on the remix: “Cass and I have always had a similar taste in music. I remember downloading tracks of his to DJ when I first moved to LA 6 years ago. I got to meet him when I opened for him at Sound a few years ago, and last year we got to do a co-headlining show there together. Really came full circle when he asked me to do a remix of one of the songs on his album. Cassian always sets the bar extremely high with his production, and the stems were top notch. Once I had the drums the rest of the remix pretty much wrote itself.”

Cassian added: “I don’t remember ever meeting Durante, I just remember being a fan then all of a sudden we were hanging out and making music together. We’ve made a few tunes together over the years that never saw the light of day but our first release as collaborators wasn’t until last year when we remixed Rufus Du Sol’s song Eyes. When I first heard his remix of Open Up I was surprised in the best way. It sounds like something new but feels unmistakably like Durante. Really enjoyed having it to myself these past few months but so excited for it to be out on Rose Avenue Records.”

Next, sprouting from Nora En Pure‘s Purified Radio #209 is the remarkable Where The Heart Is release, ‘Falling’, by the blooming artists San Fran’s Sasheen and Tuson’s Jacob Acosta. Hitting mind soothing tones with lyrics that ring “Believe in love, believe in magic…” and diving deep with a melodic house beat, ‘Falling’ is an attention grabber.

After Francesco Pico from the Netherlands relaunched his Magnitude Recordings imprint under the umbrella of the Manual Music record company two years ago, the label quickly re-established itself as a force to be reckoned with.

One of the most memorable releases of “Magnitude Recordings 2.0” has been Golan Zocher‘s Enter / Sandman double A-sider. Reason enough to revisit this single with a fresh remix by Hungarian progressive house heavyweight Paul Kardos.

Heartbreak sees Simon Green, aka Bonobo, team up with fellow producer Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (TEED) to deliver a dancefloor-driven 12” that builds on some of the foundations of electronic music, tracing a line from 1980’s NYC through to the warehouse parties of today. Lead single “Heartbreak” is a breakbeat-driven ode to one of electronic music’s formative scenes: NYC’s disco revolution of the 1970’s & 80’s. Sampling Christine Wiltshire’s iconic vocal line “I can’t take the heartbreak” from the ‘83 disco anthem “Weekend” by Class Action.
