The Apollo 50 concert will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing at Goonhilly Earth Station in Cornwall.
Taking place on Saturday July 20 and running from 10am to 4am, the day will feature performances from Public Service Broadcasting, Orbital (pictured), the Daphne Oram-originated Radiophonics Workshop, and A Love Letter From Outer Space, a piece created and performed by Andrew Weatherall and Hardway Bros’ Sean Johnston.
The satellite communications site based at Goonhilly played a significant role in broadcasting the 1969 moon landing, with one of its largest satellites Arthur, named after King Arthur, responsible for the moon landing being available to watch on TV around the world.
Talking heads sessions will also be held with Pip Greenaway who was a part of the team of operators manning the satellite station at Goonhilly Downs in 1969 during the moon landing. These will be organised by the Goonhilly Heritage Society.
There will be activities for all ages to take part in, from interactive laser shows to astronomy, as well as rocket building workshops and screenings of 2018’s First Man and the seminal work of pioneering filmmaker Georges Méliès A Trip To The Moon.
