Melodic House has been a dominant force in electronic music for over five years, making it increasingly difficult for producers to bring something fresh to the genre. With the Beatport charts often filled with tracks that stick to familiar formulas, breaking through requires a distinct approach. Night Breeze, an LA-based producer, does exactly that—carving out his own space with a melodic-driven take on the genre that stands apart. It’s no surprise he’s already gaining recognition from some of the most respected labels in Melodic and Organic House.

His latest release, Out of My Mind, dropped last week on David Hohme’s Where the Heart Is records, meeting the label’s high standards of curation. The track blends emotional vocals with a groovy, syncopated melody, while warm, driving percussion locks everything together seamlessly.

We invited Justin, better known as Night Breeze, to share insights into his creative process—how he finishes tracks efficiently, brings ideas to life, avoids creative burnout, and more. Check out Out of My Mind below, then dive into his production tips for crafting standout Melodic House.

1. Prioritize Finishing Tracks

Finish as many tracks as possible. Every finished track is a learning experience that brings you closer to finding your sound and your artistic voice.

2. Embrace Your Uniqueness

Lean into the weirder and more unique parts of yourself. There’s no easier way to sink into the endless sea of new music than to sound like everything else.

3. Perfection Is a Myth

There’s no such thing as ‘perfect’ when it comes to art. People connect with a song based on the vibe and emotion in the track, not some mythical ideal of technical perfection that doesn’t exist.

4. Keep It Simple

Say as much as you can with as few elements as possible. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

5. Stay Persistent

Above all, stay persistent and keep creating. It’s remarkable how much you’ll improve simply with steady, sustained dedication over years.

6. Balance Creativity and Refinement

There are two key sides to the creative process. One where you get into a creative flow + generate ideas without judgment, and one where you analyze + refine those ideas.

7. Keep Your Tracks Moving

A big part of what brings electronic music to life is having constant small changes throughout. Every part in your song should be evolving over time, whether through modulation, automation, or variations.

8. Focus on What You Can Control

Don’t waste time worrying about things you can’t control like AI, the streaming industry, or a crowded marketplace. Focus on what you can control—consistently making music and refining your skills.

9. Stick to a Core Toolset

Nothing kills creative flow more than preset surfing or figuring out a new plugin. Pick a limited set of tools and learn those inside and out. My desert island set of plugins is the Soundtoys bundle—I use those on everything.

10. Done Is Better Than Perfect

Our best ideas are always in front of us. Most tracks are simply a stepping stone along a greater path.
