Golden Bug: The stunning new project is an experimental dream

Master of the unqiue and innovative and godfather of the Krautrock genre – Golden Bug returns with his stunning and affecting full-length project PISCOLABIS II. Available via La Belle Records – The album is a mesmerizing dive into a world where organic and robotic sounds collide, creating a surreal, sensory-laden experience. Following two years after PISCOLABIS, this fifth album from the French producer expands on the atmospheric, experimental soundscapes that defined its predecessor. The 10 tracks are undeniably strange in the most alluring way, blending heavy rhythms, razor-sharp guitars, and a feeling of distortion throughout the whole piece, which mirrors the distorted and dystopian world the artist looks to represent.

“Red Wolf” – Music Video

The album kicks off with the epic “Paradis,” a spacey, hypnotic track that sets the tone for the rest of the journey. From there, Golden Bug takes listeners on a whirlwind ride through genres, moods, and tempos. “Red Wolf,” featuring the magnetic vocals of Phoebe Coco, stands out as a raw, rock-infused gem, while “L’Effet Domino” layers Anna Jean’s haunting spoken word over dark, cinematic Western vibes. It’s an absolute standout from the album that borders on haunting indie music

Tracks like “Boomerang” and “Hi No Tori” bring dub and cosmic influences into the mix, while the hypnotic “Toupie” and the acid-soaked “Poc A Poc” add even more layers of intrigue. The Berlin-inflected “Autobahn” and the mechanical grooves of “Ricochet” carry the album to its finale.

With PISCOLABIS II, Golden Bug crafts a rich, psychological landscape that feels both otherworldly and grounded in gritty textures. It’s a project that’s hard to define or pin down, but easy to marvel at the production wizardy throughout.
