Ahh Fyre Festival. It is weird to think that it was almost a year ago when we witnessed the social media meltdown the century. Last year, Billy McFarland, notorious douche and playboy teamed up with Ja-Rule, the rapper who famously bankrupt an unimaginably successful label in record time, to produce the ‘Festival The Century'. Unfortunately they truly had no idea what they were doing and thousands people ended up stranded on a small Bahamian Island which lacked basic supplies for the influx travelers. If you are unfamiliar with this story, than that is surprising…but you can catch up with our handy timeline here.
The Arrest And Guilty Plea
Not long after the disaster which played out in April 2017, McFarland was arrested on charges wire fraud connected to the festival. Many claim he defrauded investors potentially millions. Since then not much has been heard about Fyre Festival or it's parent company's other projects like the app the same name.
Now though we have received ficial word that Billy has plead guilty to 2 counts wire fraud with open sentencing. Each count carries a maximum 20 years, for a potential (albeit unlikely) sentence 40 years in federal prison. McFarland is currently out on $300,000 cash bail while he awaits sentencing. While he could face up to 40 years, he will most likely receive a much lighter sentence. Stay tuned for updates as they develop.
