DJ Spoony will celebrate his 50th birthday this weekend with an eight-hour charitable livestream event on Sunday June 28 from 1pm until 9pm. All funds raised will be split between the Black Heart Foundation, The Black Curriculum and the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust.
The event is intended to celebrate Black British excellence, and will feature appearances from the likes of Baroness Doreen Lawrence, Idris Elba, Ian Wright, Jamz Supernova, Kano, Kojey Radical, Judi Love, Robbie Gee, Reggie Yates, Hamzaa and Trevor Nelson, to name a few.

As well as live sets, there will also be discussions from guests on what it means to be Black and successful in Britain today, their inspirations and their goals. The day will end with a three-hour back to back with British garage crew Dreem Teem members Timmi Magic and Mikee B, as well as MC Ranking and other UK garage and house DJs handpicked by DJ Spoony.

Speaking on how the event came into being, DJ Spoony has commented, “I had planned on hosting the party of all parties to celebrate. A global pandemic, however, along with the restrictions and government guidelines to keep us all safe, has somewhat put paid to that. In response to the recent and very much needed Black Lives Matter campaign, I have decided to use the milestone of my birthday along with my platform to do something more important. I want to celebrate Black British excellence”.
He’s also said, “Whilst there are lots of conversations about the importance of education in schools, formal education is only part of it. Positive affirmations, influence and recognition are equally important.”
The event will be live streamed across DJ Spoony’s Facebook, Twitch and Instagram channels.
