House and techno fans in San Diego closed out September at the 10th installment of the city’s beloved CRSSD Festival. The bi-annual festival packed Waterfront Park on September 28th and 29th, complete with great music, food, crowds, and some seriously picturesque views.

The lineup for CRSSD has only gotten more and more impressive with each festival. The majority of the music is house and techno but there are always a few surprises thrown in, these artists typically gracing the main stage.

Names like Kaskade, Green Velvet, Fisher, Richie Hawtin, and Portugal. The Man were among the top line acts gracing the three stages across the 12-acre park: The Palms – the jungle-esque house stage which attendees are greeted with upon entering, City Steps – the more minimal looking techno stage which sits right in the middle, and Ocean View – the largest stage with the best visuals and views of the water, often hosting any live acts of the festival.

Day 1 kicked off with a strong, energetic start. Tinlicker’s progressive set at City Steps was the perfect soundtrack for the early afternoon festival vibe. Irish producer Rebuke followed, drawing in the crowd with his unique sound and blasting off tracks from his upcoming EP on the renowned Drumcode Records.

City Steps was certainly the hot spot to be at sunset, as Green Velvet drew a massive crowd, very much overflowing the festival’s smallest stage. Meanwhile, at Ocean View Parisian pair Polo & Pan delivered a funky set that kept the sea of people grooving into the night. Across the park, Eli & Fur played a melodic deep house set, setting the stage for Yaeji to close out the night at Palms. Italian techno duo 999999999 brought the heat Saturday night at City Steps, playing one of the highest energy sets of the entire weekend.

Some would argue the Sunday lineup was even more stacked than Saturday, and that combined with slightly better weather from the previous day was the perfect recipe to say goodbye to CRSSD for 2019.

Ukranian duo Artbat was a crowd favorite on Sunday, pulling in fans who might otherwise not spend much time at City Steps. Many fans then migrated over to Palms for one of the most anticipated sets of the weekend, Shiba San b2b Walker & Royce. Kaskade simultaneously drew a huge crowd (as expected) at Ocean View, as he played his Redux set for the first time on a main stage.

Back at City Steps, once Amelie Lens took over the decks just before sunset, there was no slowing down for the remainder of the night, as her and Richie Hawtin each played two-hour sets. As the sky got darker so did the music and City Steps became the place to be for an ominous ride into the night. Those looking for a lighter, more celebratory atmosphere piled in at Palms to end their night with the one and only Fisher.

After such an amazing festival it can be hard to not crave more of the music, vibes, and beautiful surroundings. Luckily the next CRSSD is only five months away and the wait is sprinkled with events such as FNGRS CRSSD’s DAY MVS with Lane 8, Luttrell, Shiba San, and others.
