Florian Picasso, the French DJ and producer, is currently riding a wave of momentum, transitioning his sound and career into a bold new chapter that fuses his love for house and techno with his inherent artistic background. This interview was conducted by Oscar from Edmtunes at the Insomniac Pop-Up Studio in Amsterdam during the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
Coming off a successful summer that included a residency at Solomun +1 in Ibiza and the release of his Booty EP, Florian is continuing to defy expectations. He recently spoke about his demanding seven-hour set at Rex Club All Night Long in Paris and the mental preparation required, which involves meditation and visualizing the night from start to finish. His latest single, ‘Space Ride,‘ exemplifies his new “hybrid” sound, intentionally bridging melodic house and techno with pop-like arrangements, a fresh approach that has been well-received, much like his previous track ‘Sugar Daddy.‘ Beyond the music, Florian views himself as a creator, blending his auditory art with fashion through a partnership with Filling Pieces, a collaboration that aims to create immersive experiences and showcase an extra side to his creativity, all while staying true to the principle of having fun and being organic in his work.

Oscar: Hello everyone, this is Oscar from EDMTunes. We’re here at Amsterdam Dance Event with the one and only Florian Picasso. How are you today?
Florian Picasso: I’m doing amazing. How about you?
Oscar: Very good! October must be a busy month for you, so let’s start with some gratitude. Tell me five things you’re thankful for today.
Florian Picasso: Friends, family, destiny, music, and love.
Oscar: Perfect. Gratitude sets the right tone. Now, let’s talk about your All Night Long set at Rex Club in Paris — seven hours! How did you prepare mentally and physically for that?
Florian Picasso: Physically, it was tough—my back is still mad at me! But honestly, it didn’t feel that long. Time flew by. Mentally, I wanted to take people on a journey. I had an idea of the vibe and flow, but you can’t just drop all your big tracks right away—you have to build tension, read the crowd, and earn those big moments.
I meditate before long sets, visualize the night from start to finish, do breathing exercises, and set the energy I want to bring. I also invited some of my favorite Paris-based artists to join throughout the night. They played 40 minutes to 2 hours each, but I stayed behind the decks the whole time. It wasn’t just my night—it was our night. And it sold out, which was incredible.
Oscar: That’s amazing. Was that your longest set ever?
Florian Picasso: Yes, it was. But I could definitely go for nine or ten hours next time.
Oscar: Let’s talk about your new single, ‘Space Ride’. It feels like a bridge between melodic house and techno—was that intentional?
Florian Picasso: Very intentional. I’ve been exploring this hybrid sound for about a year—somewhere between trance, techno, and melodic house. Coming from EDM, my background is in structured, lyrical songs with pop-style arrangements. I wanted to bring that to underground music. Most tracks loop vocals, but I wanted full songs with verses and hooks.
It’s been working—’When I Saw You’ did great, ‘Sugar Daddy’ blew up, and now ‘Space Ride’ is taking off. It’s all about having fun and keeping things organic.
Oscar: You’re also celebrating the release with a collaboration with Filling Pieces during ADE. What inspired that?
Florian Picasso: I’ve always wanted to be more than a DJ—more of a creator. I love fashion and art, and I think artists today need to show different sides of themselves. I already wore Filling Pieces before, so the partnership happened naturally. We did an event together last April that went so well, we’re doing it again—with Johnnie Walker now sponsoring. We’re turning the venue into a kind of “spaceship,” tying into the ‘Space Ride’ theme with a 70s UFO vibe.
Oscar: That sounds incredible. This summer, you also released your Booty EP and joined Solomun’s +1 in Ibiza. Two big milestones in one season! How did that happen?
Florian Picasso: It all happened naturally. I sent Solomun a track myself—even though my old management said I wasn’t ready. He loved it and took it. That moment taught me a lot: trust your instincts. Don’t wait for permission—if you believe in your work, put it out there.
Oscar: That’s powerful. What advice would you give to new DJs trying to break through?
Florian Picasso: Find what makes you unique. Don’t copy others—use inspiration, but add your own flavor. Standing out might not pay off immediately, but it does in the long run. And remember why you’re doing it. If it’s just for fame or money, it won’t last.
Oscar: Well said. Finally, your family has a huge artistic legacy. Has that influenced your career?
Florian Picasso: Definitely. There’s a responsibility that comes with the Picasso name—it pushes me to maintain quality. But more than that, it’s about the creative mindset: always exploring, recording sounds, experimenting. Picasso dared to be different and authentic, and that inspires me daily—to keep creating fearlessly.
Oscar: Beautifully said. Any final message for your fans?
Florian Picasso: Stay tuned for the next chapter—it’s going to be a banger.

Florian Ruiz-Picasso is a French-Vietnamese DJ and record producer based in Cannes, France. He is the great-grandson of the renowned artist, Pablo Picasso.
