Seven Lions has released a two-track remix pack for Ocean, his collaboration with Jason Ross. The artists selected to face the task of remixing a fan favorite song are Grant and Au5. Grant is known throughout the Monstercat community for his powerful remixes of tracks by Selena Gomez, San Holo, and Arizona. He also joined Seven Lions on his China tour earlier this year. Coincidently, Au5 will be joining Seven Lions and Jason Ross as support on the Journey 2 Tour set for this fall.
Grant’s take on Ocean took the melodic masterpiece, added a splash of pop and a dash of relaxation. Grant perfectly constructed a bouncy version of the already vibrant melody prime for summer listening. The song starts off with a sun-soaked melody that instantly puts you in a beach frame of mind. The drop hits and it feels as if you are being carried away by tropical trade winds. The undulating bass lines make the overall feel of this remix aquatic and fun.
Au5 is well known for his impeccable sound creation and this remix is a shining example of this. Much like Seven Lions I find I never quite know what direction Au5 is going to go and I love that about him. This take on Ocean starts with a delightfully trancier vibe than I expected. At the drop Au5 really impressed me with a driving trance drop that still maintains the Au5 signature expansive bass lines. At the break vocal chops splice in to a relaxed melody which slowly build toward the final drop. The ending of this remix is exactly why I love Au5. The bass filled synths contain just the perfect amount of glitch creating a tide effect pushing the drop in and out. This remix is perfection and it has me salivating for the Journey 2 Tour.
