German-based artist, TheFatRat dropped a new track on Nov. 7th. And as the title, “Monody” suggests, it is an ode most epic. Featuring vocals from the lovely Monstercat favorite, Laura Brehm, “Monody” is a tale unlike any other. The FatRat expertly crafts an epic story of fellow feeling through different motifs of story telling and sound. Or story begins in a most heroic fashion. A lone horn blares a call to arms as violin and flutes intersect with their own answer. As the intro builds the horns grow in size and strength before dropping into something unexpected; Upbeat electro funk. It might sound like a match made in questionable circumstances, but The FatRat executes it with panache. The bouncy beats manage to counter the openness of the more traditional instruments, harmoniously intertwining around one another to paint a tapestry of  sound. One of the best parts though, is everything convelecing around Laura Brehm’s vocals.  She’s lent her voice to tracks from, Rameses B, Mr. FijiWiji, and Varien (to name a few), without fail she once again brings this light that fills the track. While the FatRat’s theme blasts behind her, she shines and brings each element together in something that is better left heard than explained.
