This week’s latest release on Magnetic Magazine Recordings is especially meaningful to me, Will Vance, as it marks my own debut on the label. I’m thrilled to kick things off with a collaboration with Tiago Dima, one of Tulum’s rising stars. Tiago originally sent me this demo over a year ago for a different label I ran. Though the demo had great potential, it was still rough around the edges. As Magnetic Magazine Recordings was just starting to take shape, Tiago and I gradually refined it, turning a strong foundation into, at least what I believe is, the hit track we have today.

To celebrate this release, I wanted to highlight Tiago and delve into his initial inspirations for the track, his approach to collaborations, and how the instrumentation and production shape the song’s mood. Much of the track revolves around the handpan melodies and textured vocals in the initial demo, which I helped refine and the end result is certainly greater than the sum of both its parts (AKA our own individual chops in the studios)

I’m excited to share this with the world and present an exclusive interview with Tiago Dima for Magnetic Magazine’s sixth release, “Air and Darkness,” out now.

How do you see this song fitting into the current musical landscape?

Music always finds its place in time. As an artist, you can explore a broader spectrum while maintaining your unique sound and style.

Different moods and energies are captured in the songs, giving us endless space to play and create.

Looking ahead, what can fans expect from you and your musical project in the future?

A lot of music is coming through soon, and I’m very excited about the collaborations. We’re working with artists from different parts of the world, all while staying true to our unique style, sound, and vibe.

What inspired you to create this particular song?

I always start a song with just an emotion in mind and from there I develop the song, so this particular song was created into a more atmospheric, ethereal feel, then the sounds where also chosen based on instruments that where more into that space

How do you approach collaboration, if any, when creating music?

Collaborating with different artists is incredibly fun because you always learn from each other. Music is our shared language, and it’s fascinating to see how a song comes together through this unique form of communication.

How does the instrumentation and production contribute to the overall mood of the song?

We aimed to create a spacey, vibey, and uplifting atmosphere, while keeping an organic touch with percussions and pads seamlessly blending together. The track develops gradually, offering moments of tension and openness throughout.
