The Story Behind Backwoods Music Festival

The festival´s story begins in 2008 under the name Backwoods Bash, a non-profit event to benefit kids in need of technology and other school supplies over Memorial Day Weekend at Keystone Lake Park in Prue, Oklahoma. Initially it brought pure Red Dirt, Folk, Indie, Jamband, and Americana music.

After seven years as a non-profit event with several different benefactors, the festival gained investors and evolved by adding top-notch electronic music to the lineup. In 2014, this ¨cross over¨ festival changed names to Backwoods Music Festival as well as changed locations to be along the infamous Route 66 in Stroud Oklahoma.

Now Backwoods Music Festival is located at Mulberry Mountain in Ozark Arkansas, the former home of Wakarusa.

The 11th installment brings bass heads and bluegrass folk together as attendees will experience headliners like Zeds Dead, G Jones, REZZ, Peekaboo, Space Jesus, Yonder Mountain String Band and Infamous Stringdusters. Beyond the music there will be performing artists, epic art installations, and activities such as a Ferris Wheel, helicopter rides, water park activities, volleyball, billiards tournaments, free yoga classes, and hoop dance workshops serve as other attractions.

Until March 31st, you can also apply to be a visual artist, visual performer, promoter, volunteer, vendor or press.

Visual artists and performers include live painting or performing Silks, Lyra, Fire Poi, or any other awesome talent. Volunteers will get free admission to the festival and a bunch of cool perks.
