This month’s techno chart is a fair representation of the legends and those that are carrying the torch forward. Adam Beyer, Slam, and Nicole Moudaber are a few of the elder statesman to keep pushing forward. While Eli Brown, Deas, and Weska are some of the younger ones who are likely to be the legends of the future. If not, they are at least holding it down in 2024 with a sound their own that’s both making waves and positioning them among the elite.
Follow the Spotify playlist that features every techno track to chart in 2024:
1. “OVERDOSE OF BASS” – ADAM BEYER, ELI BROWN [DRUMCODE]
“I think Eli is one of the key artists to bring a fresh energy and perspective to club techno in recent years and it’s been cool collaborating with him, both in the studio and behind the decks in the B2Bs we’ve played, with the Drumcode show in Lisbon being a particular highlight’ Adam says. ‘I think with Overdose Of Bass we’ve perfectly blended our two respective styles and sounds. I’m really pleased to be able to finally share this with the Drumcode family as it’s been a big track in many of my sets through 2024.” -Adam Beyer
2. “MANIAC” – DEAS [CLR]
Poland’s Deas is back on CLR with a pair of belters that kicks things off with the title track, “Maniac.” A devastating banger that features sub-heavy rhythms accompanied by traditional, techno stabs. Turn it up.
3. “FLICKER” – SLAM [SOMA RECORDS]
Slam’s final drop of the year is a three-tracker which leads off with this menace of a tune that completely reaffirms their high position on the techno pyramid of legends that continue to dominate the landscape.
4. “MUDCAT” – WESKA [TRUESOUL]
“When I initially created this EP, my goal was to produce some upbeat party tracks. ‘Mudcat’ started out when I discovered a kick with an 80’s vibe that I really liked. Combined with the offbeat bass and vocal sample, everything else fell into place. Adding a suspenseful synth that rose and fell throughout the track gave it the energetic vibe I was aiming for.” -Weska
5. “YEAH” – WESKA [TRUESOUL]
“’Yeah’ came together in just a few hours. The vocal stabs on the downbeat inspired the rest of the call and response, and the snappy snare added an indie disco feel.” -Weska
6. “VERB” – CONFIDENTIAL RECIPE [TURBO RECORDINGS]
Colombian producer, Confidential Recipe is responsible for this bumper that has one foot in 1992 and the other right here in 2024.
7. “TECHBLAZZER” – CONFIDENTIAL RECIPE [TURBO RECORDINGS]
Confidential Recipe’s other highlight on Turbo Recordings is this equally nostalgic production that takes me back to the early/mid ’90s. Robert Armani on Dance Mania is what specifically comes to mind.
8. “LIVING IN THE MOMENT” – ADAM BEYER, ELI BROWN [DRUMCODE]
“Adam has always been someone I’ve massively respected as one of the pioneers of modern techno,” Eli says. “We’ve been exchanging records and I’ve been sending him music for sometime and then he signed a track called ‘Deep Down’ and then my flip on LFO’s ‘Freak’ which really helped cement me in the techno world. As we have spent more time together our friendship has really grown and after a couple of B2Bs I feel we have really clicked which can be seen when we play together. Whilst we come from different musical backgrounds – Adam from techno and me from Jungle/DnB- our musical tastes are very similar sonically and fundamentally. It felt so natural to work on some music together.” -Eli Brown
9. “GOLDEN (2024 REMAKE)” – MARK REEVE [TERMINAL M]
Five years after Mark Reeve unleashed the very captivating, “Golden,” he’s returns to Terminal M with a reboot of it that’s equally as brilliant.
10. “ALL WE HAVE” – MARK REEVE [TERMINAL M]
Accompanying the update of “Golden” is this much more aggressive one he’s titled, “All We Have.”
11. “SCORPIUS” – SELECTIVE RESPONSE [CRISIS OF MAN]
The six-track, second volume of Selective Response‘s Stay True dropped at the very beginning of the month and it featured this ridiculous rumbler that should be filed under, “hard and fast.”
12. “REASONS TO LOVE YOU (SPACE 92 REMIX)” – NICOLE MOUDABER [FACTORY 93 RECORDS]
Space 92‘s high-octane revision of Nicole Moudaber‘s haunting original is a main room delight for those of us who like it loud and boisterous.
13. “LEADER OF THE PACK” – MHA IRI [WHY DON’T YOU DANCE?]
“The bigger you get, the more backlash you get. But remember, your passion makes you unique. All the noise isn’t relevant. You’re the boss, bringing something special to the table. Keep following your dreams and be unapologetically you.” -Mha Iri
14. “MIND IS CLEAR” – SOL ORTEGA [MIND MEDIZIN RECORDS]
Argentina’s Sol Ortega kicks off the second edition of Hermanas with “Mind is Clear.” A slick, slice of deep techno that features a contorted vocal sample that intertwines with other manipulated vocal effects.
15. “TOMA TOMA” – SZG [ISMUS]
SZG brings a little hard techno bounce to the NOVAONE compilation on Charlotte de Witte‘s Ismus imprint.
