Three weeks after the month has ended, we bring you the biggest and brightest techno that’s been resonating throughout May. The chart’s biggest star, Charlotte De Witte did her thing with “Roar” but the baddest of them all belongs to Space on’s rendition of Layton Giordani’s pandemic anthem, “New Generation.” It’s a spectacular effort worth framing and highlighting as the top techno track of April 2024.
1. “NEW GENERATION (SPACE 92 REMIX)” – LAYTON GIORDANI [DRUMCODE]
“As soon as I listened to ‘New Generation’, my first thought was that this track was a perfect match to my own identity and energy. I was therefore very happy to get to remix it. Layton is a very talented producer!” – Space 92
“‘Formation’ is a celebration of breaking out of the genre canvas. From ‘house’y’ sounds through dub techno to hard groove, the EP takes you on a ride, showcasing the depth and dimensionality of my art.” – Deas
3. “BASIC INSTINCT” – DLV, KTK [MISGUIDED LABEL]
Berlin-based artist, DLV kicks off his label with newcomer, KTK and the resulting effort is a set of tunes that move at a breakneck speed with only the truest heads in mind. Turn it up.
As Turbo Recordings passes a quarter of a century in existence, they still boast some of the edgiest techno around and Anastasia Kristensen’s debut on the Canadian imprint is no exception whatsoever.
Lucid Void’s dub techno adventure on Benthic is a sophomore effort that features this ice cold beauty they call, “Signal.”
6. “CHILDREN OF THE TWILIGHT” – BJÖRN TORWELLEN [NACHSTROM SCHALLPLATTEN]
After a four-year production absence, Björn Torwellen is back with a spectacular long-player that features this phenomenal piece of techno. 10/10
One of the must underrated producers in the game is back with another statement which reinforces how prolific Raxon can be.
8. “EXTACID” – DR. RUBINSTEIN [UPPERS AND DOWNERS]
“The idea behind the label is my own personal journey as an undiagnosed autistic person. Growing up, I could never find my place or feel at home anywhere. The very first feelings of home—of belonging and mutual understanding—came to me on the dance floor, and I have never looked back! When I started DJing, I was able to channel this feeling of home to dance floors all over the world in my sets, and after years of doing so, I feel ready and inspired to do the same as a music producer and label curator.” – Dr. Rubinstein
Take me back to the second weekend of Coachella where Charlotte De Witte dropped this rave weapon with overwhelming crowd response.
Jay Lumen’s latest, “Bang To The Beat” is a behemoth that boasts nasty acid riffs along with wicked synth stabs which puts the tune high above nearly everything out there at the moment.
Italian remixer, DAST came through on the remix package for Pan-Pot with this peak-time business that screams intensity.
12. “MINDSTORM SONATA (PARALLX XBERG DUB REMIX)” – UNCOMFORMIST [CRISIS OF MAN]
German producer, Parallx takes “Mindstorm” into another dimension with his psychedelic interpretation that sets it apart from the rest.
Fresh off her Drumcode appearance this past March, Japanese producer, Marie Vaunt is back at it with this rapid-fire, single she calls. “The Chosen.”
Oscar L’s “Mad World” is a but rougher around the edges than its counterpart, “Love Me.” A perfect partner that demonstrates his versatility within the confines of techno.
15. “TALKING” – MASSANO [SIMULATE RECORDINGS]
Shortly before his appearance on Drumcode next week, Massano treated melodic techno enthusiasts with this heavyweight outing which you’ll currently find charting high on Beatport.
