2024 has been an incredible year for the DJs, producers, and Disco & Funk music consumers! It’s always hard to narrow down all of the amazing music we’ve heard this year to just 15 songs, but I think we can all agree, that there are no wrong answers with the richness and quality of music that was produced in 2024!

January * OPOLOPO – Bebeccie’s Theme [Z Records]
Opolopo is the Yoruba word for “plenty”, and boy does this DJ/producer have plenty to offer in high-quality disco! “Bebeccie’s Theme” is a disco tour-de-force, welcoming you back to the cinematic, classic disco sounds of the late seventies.
February * Nikka Costa – Dirty Disco [Go Funk Yourself, Inc.]
Nikka Costa has been recording funk and soul music her whole adult career, and the surprise return to music after a seven-year hiatus was one of the most welcome of 2024! “Dirty Disco” is a tribute to letting loose and feeling free, no matter who you are!
March * Touch Sensitive – U Want More feat. Telenova [Future Classic]
Touch Sensitive is back with his signature banging funk basslines on “U Want More”, this time with the lovely Nu-Disco vocals of Telenova. The L.A./Sydney-based artist’s music brings sunshine, so if you are feeling gloomy, this track will brighten up your days and nights. Check it out on Future Classics.
April * Audiowhores & Suki Soul – Can’t Stop Me Now [Midnight Riot!]
UK-based Graham Lord and Adam Unsworth, otherwise known as Audiowhores have joined forces with the almighty Hed Candi songstress Suki Soul (Sara Larder) on “Can’t Stop Me Now”, another jam you will certainly be hearing a lot this summer. This track has a super positive lyric, sounds sexy, and is sure to fill your dancefloor!
May * The Wild Violets – Sunrise (Dr Packer Remix) [The Disco Express]
While London-based band The Wild Violets may look like a bunch of fresh-faced college kids starting a folk group, don’t let that fool you because they are taking the Disco world by storm! With an early assist by Dr Packer on the remix for “Sunrise”, this band is ready for prime time! Check out their excellent new ‘Til The Sunrise EP on The Disco Express!
May * D.C. LaRue – Hot Jungle Drums & Voodoo Rhythm (Ladies On Mars Extended Remix) [Only Good Vibes Music Ltd]
“Hot Jungle Drums & Voodoo Rhythm” is the perfect D.C. LaRue track for Ladies On Mars to remix. Ladies On Mars has an ideal grasp of the fun and kitschy elements that have always been part of Disco culture. The modern production techniques make this classic song sound ageless and dancefloor-ready, plus anytime you get to remix a Disco legend like D.C. LaRue, you say yes!
June * Celestial Being – Raise The Vibration (Crackazat Club Mix) [Z Records]
Felix Buxton, better known as one half of Basement Jaxx is back with his new project Celestial Being and the magnificent track “Raise The Vibration”, remixed by Z Records’ own Crackazat. The remix is jazzy, with funky guitars and a xylophone break that adds a bit of elegance! The track begs to be played in the sunshine, although, I am sure no one would mind hearing it after hours either!
July * Louie Vega – Music Is My Life feat. Unlimited Touch (Dave Lee Extended Remix) [Nervous Records]
July gave us “Music Is My Life” by house music giant Louie Vega. Dave Lee’s remix is a classic, taking all of the best elements of the 2022 original and adding that disco sauce that Lee does so well. The tempo is a quarter sped up, strings, extra horns, and heavier bass lines were added to spice up this mix. It’s a true match made in heaven!
August * Jafunk – Into the Night feat. Stefan Mahendra & Triple H Horns (Luckie Star Records]
There is no stopping the Jafunk train right now! “Into The Night” is the final teaser track from the upcoming EP Disco Nights, and this track takes full advantage of Stefan Mahendra’s rich vocals and the incredible Triple H Horns. If you haven’t been watching Jafunks’ Instagram tutorials on how to make disco music, you are missing out!
September * Duck Sauce – Fallin’ In Love [D4 Dance]
I am “Fallin’ In Love” with the latest release from Duck Sauce! Electronic music legends A-Trak and Armand Van Helden continue to surprise with fresh sounds. You can clearly hear both artists’ vision in the song, with A-Trak’s glitchy, tech-forward approach mixed with Van Helden’s classic house sounds. Together, these artists have created a delicious nu-disco treat!
October * 808 Beach x Amy Douglas – Whatever Daddy Says (John “J-C” Carr Glitter Mix) [toucan sound & Peace Bisquit]
Singer/songwriter Amy Douglas has reached a new height of female empowerment on “Whatever Daddy Says”. The song title sounds like Daddy is in charge, but make no mistake, Douglas is always in charge of her narrative! 808 Beach‘s John “J-C” Carr takes the original mix and adds a little disco flair for good measure, then strips away the music to focus on every delicious growl that Douglas makes. The whole remix package is worth the purchase!
November * Flight Facilities and DRAMA – Dancing On My Own [Glitterbox Recordings]
The total surprise release of November is Flight Facilities and DRAMA’s “Dancing On My Own” on the illustrious Glitterbox Records! This track is about finding self-love and acceptance, getting out there, and letting your freak flag fly! Welcome back to the disco boys!
December * Gavin Turek – Heaven Knows (Caserta’s God Hour Remix) [Madame Gold Records]
Gavin Turek had a breakout year in 2024 with her brilliant Diva Of The People LP. To close out the year, she released the gorgeous Caserta’s God Hour Remix of “Heaven Knows”, a song about the heartbreaking loss of a loved one wrapped in the warm embrace of disco. Heaven knows one of the best places to celebrate love is on the dancefloor!
December * Dave & Maurissa – Open Me Up [Z Records]
Dave Lee and Maurissa Rose have a little Christmas gift for us with “Open Me Up”, a classic disco/house track with cool synth and bass lines and Maurissa’s smoky, smooth vocals. The track will be featured on the upcoming London/Detroit LP, so expect to hear more from these two artists in the coming year.
