A stunning new piece available via Bad Parrot
Expanding his musical repertoire, Scottish producer Rich Ellis showcases his ability to create in multiple genres with his new single “Circulate”, where he exchanges his usual dance-focused sound for something more laid back and textural. Influenced by artists like Bonobo and Tourist, the track leans into indie-electronic and ambient elements, designed for immersive listening rather than peak-time DJ sets. The shift in style reflects Ellis’ evolving artistry, embracing a more melodic and emotive approach to production. It’s a track that’s full of joy, lush plucky synths and an overall feeling of wholesomeness.. It’s bringing back the summer feels in a big way.
Ellis began working on “Circulate” back in 2022, allowing the track to take shape organically over time. Unlike his signature speed garage anthems, this production is more restrained, with intricate synth plucks and smooth, rolling beats setting a hypnotic groove. While the two-step rhythms still hint at his UK Garage roots, “Circulate” trades high-energy drops for a more fluid, storytelling atmosphere.
Discussing the creative process, Ellis explains, “Circulate is a bit of a change of direction for me. I’ve been sat on it for a while- the initial idea was started in 2022. Unlike a lot of my discography so far, it’s not written for DJ sets. It’s a lot more low-key and more influenced by indie/electronic than anything else.” Originally considering adding vocals, Ellis ultimately decided, “I felt the plucky synth did the talking, and I think it really tells a story as an instrumental.”
With its rich textures and deep, flowing rhythms, Circulate is a track that invites deep listening on a summer evening..
