Rádio Quântica, which “aims to be a safe, communal haven for underground Portuguese artists and activists to make their voice heard”, is launching a new festival in Portugal next month.
The two-day event is called Ano 0, which translates as Year 0, and takes place across September 6 and 7. In line with the platform’s ideals, the festival is breaking new ground in Portugal with a line-up focusing on avant-garde artists and collectives involved in creating spaces for underrepresented identities.
A series of talks, DJ sets, performances, audio-visual installations will feature in the program, which takes place across the Zé dos Bois Gallery and ADAO venues in Lisbon and across the river in Barreiro respectively.
Topics covered by talks will include ‘The DIY history of Greater Lisbon’ and Naive boss Violet joining queer-focused r’n’b imprint Troublemaker Records to discuss ‘How to create a music label’.
Artists set to feature include Rádio Quantica founders Violet and Photonz spinning a rare back-to-back set, Príncipe’s Puto Tito delivering tightly-crafted rhythms, Cigarra & Tita Maravilha stepping up with a trans-feminist funk performance, Odete (pictured) pushing boundaries with a live set, and the 00: NEKYIA collective taking over a floor with a mind-bending installation
The likes of Raw Forest, Catarina Branco, Opus Pistorum, Yizhaq, Dakoi, Aurora Pinho, Fabios, NESS, Herlander, Phoebe, Taxila, Stasya, Kerox, Viegas and Bleid are also locked in to complete the experimental bill.
Individual day tickets are priced at €9, two-day passes costs €16 RA.
