Think Tove Lo with a lot less Pop, Drake without the Rap, the hovering vocals of Ryn Weaver / Ember Island, and the vibes of The Weeknd. There are plenty of artists who adequately describe certain facets of Kiiara, however, her haunting aura can only be categorized as wholeheartedly unique.
Like plenty of new artists, there isn’t a wealth of information readily available regarding Kiiara. Here’s what we do know: she’s a 20 year old singer songwriter who works as a hardware store clerk, and resides somewhere in Illinois. While that description may not follow the typical, tried and true, electro-pop formula for radio dominance, her tracks speak for themselves. Early last week, Kiiara released her 4th ever track, produced by Casper & B, titled “Intention“. This one’s a low-key, glitched out number that’s licentiously laced, R&B infused, and ready for immediate consumption.
However, my personal favorite of her releases is “Feels“, which you may have heard on Beats 1, as it was played immediately after Drake dropped “What A Time To Be Alive”. This heater was co-produced by Brenton Duvall and Felix Snow (who also produced Melanie Martinez‘s “Cry Baby”, and Selena Gomez‘s “Revival”), and exudes a carefree, albeit drugged out, Weeknd type vibe.
“And I got way too many feels, way too much emotion
All this Xans inside my body, I say fuck it keep on drowning
You can bring a juice I’ll match you
Yeah you mix it, pour the potion
I don’t know who you are, but I’d dive into your ocean”
Check out her other tracks “Tennessee“, and “Gold“, both of which were produced by Felix Snow, and seem more fit for mass appeal thanks to their simple, yet exquisitely clean basslines. Keep up with her new releases / social musings below! I hear she’s releasing an EP titled “Meet Me In The Cornfield” sometime in the near future…
