Line Of Duty star Brian McCardie has died unexpectedly, aged 59.

The Scottish actor’s sister made a post on X today (April 30) announcing that McCardie died “suddenly at home” on Sunday (April 28).

In the post, Sarah McCardie wrote: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian James McCardie (59), beloved son, brother, uncle and dear friend to so many.”

She explained how “Brian passed away suddenly at home,” before going onto describe his passion for his work, and his impact with his performances.

Alongside a photograph of the late actor, she wrote: “A wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon.”

“We love him and will miss him greatly,” she continued.

Sarah then asked followers to “remember Brian in your thoughts” and asked on behalf of the family, “for privacy at this time”.

McCardie’s representatives, United Agents then made the following statement (via The Independent): “We are shocked and so deeply saddened by the tragic news of Brian’s sudden death.

“He was an actor of such great talent who we were lucky to represent, and our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

McCardie, who was born in Glasgow in 1965, was best known for playing John Thomas “Tommy” Hunter in BBC police drama series Line Of Duty, between 2012 and 2014.

During his acting career spanning almost three decades, McCardie appeared in various British television series, including Taggart, EastEnders and Ordeal By Innocence.

In 2021, McCardie appeared in the BBC One three-part drama Time, starring opposite Stephen Graham and Sean Bean.

His most recent performance was in the action thriller film Damaged, which was released earlier this month.

The film, which received generally negative reviews from critics, starred Samuel L. Jackson, Vincent Cassel and John Hannah among others.

In other news, Line Of Duty star Martin Compston revealed earlier this month that he was turned down for a role in Game Of Thrones.
