Laure’s “Moon Whispers” is finally out, and it’s wonderful.
If you aren’t aware yet, the backstory to this track is fascinating, as Laure began the track during a total solar eclipse. The track itself is inspired by the “emotional depth and cosmic connection” that is felt during an event like that. We absolutely had to know more.
Laure’s debut release has been in our heads all week, and it certainly should be in yours. She’s been making a name for herself lately with releases on Anjunadeep and When We Dip. She’s also a prolific live artist, playing set after set in her home city of Montreal, Canada. She also gave us tips and tricks for upcoming artists and DJs. Considering the torrid pace she’s been on lately, it’s worth a read.
Go grab your copy of “Moon Whispers” here, then come back and hear about how it was put together. Hopefully you learn something!
Are there any personal experiences or emotions that influenced the lyrics or melody of this song?
The evolving synths and melodies are a reflection of my own feelings and experiences during a time of introspection and growth. Through the music, I’m able to express the vulnerability and shifts in my emotions, creating something that feels both intimate and relatable. It’s my way of sharing a piece of my journey without words.
Can you describe the significance of the title of the song?
The title “Moon Whispers” is deeply connected to how the track came to be. I started working on it during a total eclipse in Montreal, which was an incredibly awe-inspiring experience. The eclipse made me feel reflective and in tune with something larger than myself.
The title reflects that sense of quiet wonder and the almost mystical feeling of the moon during that event. The music captures the shifting emotions and the magic of that night, with the evolving synths echoing the changing phases of the eclipse.
It’s like the track is having a subtle, personal conversation with the moon, sharing the intimate and universal feelings I experienced.
Do you have any rituals or routines you follow when writing or performing music?
Sometimes inspiration hits me in the most unexpected places, like at the gym. I might have a melody playing in my head, and I’ll find myself needing to leave to capture it before it fades away. It’s a reminder that creativity doesn’t always stick to a schedule — it can come and go on its own terms.
I’ve learned to keep a mental or physical note of these fleeting moments, knowing that they often carry the spark of something special. Whether it’s early in the morning, late at night, or even during a workout, I try to stay open to those bursts of inspiration and find ways to capture them.
How does your personal background and life experiences influence your music?
My personal background and life experiences deeply influence my music. I pour a lot of my emotions into each track, using music as a way to express and process what I’m going through. For instance, I often choose titles that hint at the experiences and feelings I’ve been navigating.
It’s my way of sharing a piece of my journey and connecting with others through the universal language of music.
How do you stay motivated and inspired to continuously create new music?
I stay motivated by soaking up all kinds of experiences and emotions, whether it’s discovering new music, reflecting on my own life, or just observing the world around me.
I also find inspiration in conversations with other musicians and artists, whose creativity can ignite my own ideas. What really drives me is the joy of expressing myself and the hope of connecting with others through my music.
What advice would you give to aspiring DJs and producers who are just starting out?
For anyone just starting out as a DJ or producer, my advice is to follow your own path and let your unique style shine. Play around with different sounds and techniques, but always stay true to what excites you. Keep honing your skills and learn from both your wins and setbacks.
Connecting with other artists and being open to feedback can also be really helpful. And remember, patience is key — building your craft takes time, but the process is an important part of the journey.
What do you consider the best piece of advice you’ve received, and how do you apply it to your process as an artist? The best advice I’ve ever received is to stay true to myself and my own voice. It reminds me to make music that genuinely reflects who I am, rather than just following trends. I use this advice by focusing on what really resonates with me and letting my personal experiences and feelings guide my creativity.
It helps me stay connected to my art and creates music that feels real and meaningful, both to me and to my listeners.
