Hi Stefanno b2b Julianno, how are you guys?
Hi guys! Very well, thank you. Happy about the invitation from your side.
How did you two meet, and what made you decide to form a DJ duo?
Our story started in 2003, back in high school actually. That was how we met each other. Shortly after, we followed the music path together because of the common love we’ve had for Electronic Music since then. We worked separately for about two years, even though we had the same ideas, music preferences, and style—also, we were even at the same DJ events frequently. Then in 2007, our future manager selected us as resident DJs in his booking agency. That was an important step for us, becoming residents at a very well-known festival in Romania, House Parade. In 2008, he came up with the idea to put us on the same stage at a Trance event organized in Timisoara, Trance Vibrations, proposing that we form a DJ duo and perform a back-to-back DJ set to open the event. Doing the warm-up for Rank 1, Aly & Fila, and Alex M.O.R.P.H. at that time was mind-blowing for us, so we embraced the idea immediately. From that moment, we stayed together because of our very good friendship and our common passion.
We truly want to give a tribute to our manager Rasty, who unfortunately passed away two years ago. He was a true dream opener and an inspiration for us—he gave us a lot of support and made an important contribution to our DJ career.
Can you share a bit about your musical backgrounds? How would you say your individual perspectives complement each other in your combined approach?
As for our musical backgrounds, we remember when we discovered those beats and the radio shows of Electronic Music in high school. We listened a lot on a small kitchen’s FM Radio to the Progressive House guys like Sasha and John Digweed with their show “Transitions,” the British Seb Fontaine, the American Danny Tenaglia, and from the Trance side, Tiesto with his ISOS series and live shows, Armin van Buuren with his melodic uplifting Trance vibe, Paul van Dyk, and Ferry Corsten.
As for our approach to how we complement each other, we always have the same answer to this question: It’s a perfect match in music taste, skills, communication, and reading the crowds when we are on stage. Since we started our project back in 2008, we noticed that we have the same feeling for the crowd or how a DJ set should sound—indoors, outdoors, or on the radio. We are strong characters, but we have never had an argument on stage or outside of it regarding a set, track, or producing ideas in general. We complement each other at every event and when we produce music. Each of us comes up with an idea, and then we complete each other until we have a final product.
Are there any particular artists or genres that have significantly impacted your sound?
Over the years, several artists have had a great impact on our sound, such as Ørjan Nilsen, Sander van Doorn, Leon Bolier (BLR), Vintage Culture, and the fresh sound of Anyma, which is very inspiring.
How would you define your signature sound, and what would you say sets you apart from other duos in the industry?
Our sound is mainly a warm, techy-Trance beat with a Progressive Techno and Melodic House touch. We think every duo has a unique impact on their music or mixing skills/selecting tracks. We communicate a lot on stage with the crowd; we try to feel them with every track and aim to make a difference minute by minute. Regarding our production style, we always try to express the feelings we have at that moment, but we also stay updated with the public’s desires, as these change frequently nowadays.
How do you balance your individual creative inputs when producing tracks together?
Just like on stage when performing, we also complete each other in the studio with ideas for each production. At the moment, each of us works separately on ideas and musical harmonies to create a groovy vibe. We send each other the project back and forth until we have a final version ready to be released. As a future plan, we are now trying to build a new studio so we can work together in the same location more often—a studio at a new level with high-standard equipment and acoustic treatments, where we are sure the ideas will come out better and better.
Outside of music, what other passions or hobbies do you both enjoy?
Both of us have day jobs. Stefan works in the retail business, and Lulian in the transport area. Besides music and our jobs, Stefan is also managing a beautiful family with two beautiful daughters, while Lulian is planning to open a Shisha-Bar in our town, being a big fan of shisha.
Having embarked on your musical journey back in 2008, how would you say your influences have evolved? How do you remain motivated and inspired?
Our sound and techniques have evolved a lot, of course. We remember with a smile on our faces the first tracks we produced back in 2010. The sound quality wasn’t that good, but the evolution is obvious. As for motivation, our love for music and the goal to share it as much as possible around the world, to travel and meet other passionate people, have maintained our motivation and inspiration. It’s a special connection we have with Electronic Music, so finding motivation is always easy in the end.
How do you think advancements in music technology have impacted your production process and live performances?
In the last 17 years since we started, a lot has changed, as we all know. The evolution of the music industry, the development in producing technology regarding DAWs, digital instruments, VSTs, and so on, as well as the number of festivals in many countries, has pushed the possibilities for many talented and passionate Producers/DJs to shine.
That had an impact on us too. The new technology helps create music faster and better, to collaborate with other artists over the internet, or to learn new skills in music production. In our live performances, we still like to feel the real DJ vibe in our hands. We know that digital DJing is being used a lot, but we still adapt to the classic CDJs and Mixer. Of course, the new updates and gear help us create live mash-ups, play with effects, or come up with spontaneous ideas.
Looking ahead, what can fans expect from you? Can you share with us any specific goals in mind that you are hoping to achieve in the future?
Our goal is divided into two parts, but they are well connected. First, we want to express our feelings through good and quality music. After that, we really hope to achieve our second goal, which is to put our music in front of as many people around the world as possible and to have the opportunity to DJ in clubs and festivals worldwide. The energy that comes from the fans keeps us focused, and we see it as validation for our work.
