Hi Heritage Listed, how’s it going?
Hey! It’s going great, thanks! It’s 38 degrees in Paris right now, so I’m basically melting—but hey, at least the sun is out.
Can you share a bit about your journey into music production? What initially drew you to the House genre?
I’ve been playing music since I was a teenager, but when COVID hit, I decided to start producing House, as, like most of us, I was stuck at home. I don’t know if I would have started if that hadn’t happened, but here we are!
I grew up listening to a mix of Rap, Jazz, and Disco, so I loved how House could accommodate all of these genres and get you dancing. Plus, that insane YouTube House algorithm pulled me in, and I kind of never left.
What inspired your move from Sydney to Europe, and how has this relocation influenced your music?
I think the dream of relocating to the EU or the UK has been in my head since I was 18. Being honest, the incredible music scene over here was what really sealed the deal.
Moving here has tuned me into tighter production, thanks to all the talented people I’ve met and the sounds I’ve absorbed from.
Also, the variety of people from all around the world here opens your perspective a lot, which has helped me try new sounds from different places.
How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music before?
Imagine a funky, jazzy Disco band with House drums—that’s pretty much the sound I go for. I try to make the vibes as happy and uplifting as possible as well.
You’ve played in various venues across Europe and Australia. What has been your most memorable live performance to date?
Definitely earlier this year at Audio Club in Switzerland. It was my first time there, and the crowd was lovely, and the room had really special energy. Plus, the sound system there is next level—I can’t wait to go back.
Can you tell us more about your new label, Basics Recording? What are your goals for this venture?
Myself and Le Hutin, an amazing DJ from Paris, started it last year, and the main goal is to release House music and anything soulful that makes us feel something, whether it’s from us or artists we admire.
We’ve currently got 4 vinyls out and aim to release more. We just released one called “Gravity” with some dope artists such as Fouk, Angelo Ferreri, and Michele Chiavarini.
Oh, and throwing parties across Europe, the UK, and eventually Australia—that would be the cherry on top.
Outside of music, what are some of your hobbies and interests that keep you inspired and creative?
I try to read and write as much as I can when I’ve got the time. Getting out into nature, doing whatever with friends as well, and I love languages. Now that I’ve moved to the Netherlands, I’m biking everywhere—trying to fit in with the locals.
Tell us about your inspirations; which artists have influenced your sound the most?
In the House realm, folks like Harvey Sutherland, Folamour, and Voilaaa have definitely left their mark on me—all wickedly talented. But I’ve got some other inspirations too, most notably Tatsuro Yamashita, Jorge Ben Jor, and Erykah Badu.
How has your sound evolved from your early releases to your latest singles?
In the beginning, I was trying everything and anything to find a sound, like most producers, I suppose. Now, I feel like I’ve honed in on a more jazzy Disco House trajectory, but who knows?
Maybe next year I’ll be diving into Garage House, we’ll see.
What are your long-term goals as a producer and DJ? Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
I’d love to write an album that I’m really proud of, travel the world, play in some epic venues, and meet even more incredible people.
If I’m still doing this in 5 years, I’d be pretty stoked. Fingers crossed.
