A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of plotting a bomb attack on a nightclub in Frankfurt, Germany.
The 17-year-old was arrested on September 1 by Hesse state police when an officer provided intelligence from the US suggesting that the German teen was planning to attack an unnamed gay venue in Frankfurt as well as a Catholic church.
Frankfurt’s prosecution spokesperson Sinan Akdogan said that at the time of the arrest the suspect - whose name has not yet been released - had instructions on how to make explosives and was trying to obtain chemicals online. According to Akdoga, small amounts of materials have been found at the teenager’s home in Florstadt.
At present no further details of the arrest have been released, but the suspect has been ordered to be held on suspicion of preparing a serious act of violence.
It was announced last year that nightclub security in the UK would be trained to help prevent terror attacks.
