Hi Eddy D’Amato, how’s it going?

All good, thanks! I’m ready to take on this 2025, full of exciting new opportunities and challenges.

Let’s dive in—what first drew you to music production, and how did your journey begin?

The ability to create something from scratch, shape the sound, and craft melodies, etc. My journey began as a self-taught producer in 2012, followed by a few production courses. However, the real starting point was definitely after studying at Point Blank Music School in London, where I gained important skills in production, engineering, and sound design.

Since you began producing, what’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned as an artist?

Don’t force creativity. There were times when I would get frustrated sitting in the studio, unable to find inspiration or even the motivation to produce something. Now, when I’m not inspired, I leave the studio or simply focus on something else.

Can you tell us about your first-ever track and how the process shaped your approach to production today?

My very first release was a 3-track Tech House EP that I put out on Humatron Records. The main track, “Let’s Chat About,” which gave the EP its name, was a typical party Tech House track with a sampled vocal. I don’t think this production influenced my current approach much, mainly because it was a completely different genre.

What DAW do you use, and what made you choose it for your productions?

I use Logic Pro. The reason I chose it is because of its intuitiveness and especially because it’s developed by Apple. Additionally, all the courses I took at Point Blank were based on this software.

Which plugins or gear play a crucial role in your production process?

Definitely FabFilter Q3 as an EQ, Decapitator by Soundtoys for saturation, and for synths, Diva by u-he and Serum by Xfer Records.

When it comes to sound design, do you rely more on presets and samples or start from scratch to create your signature sounds?

I’m a sound designer, so I enjoy starting from scratch to create my own sounds. However, sometimes I start with presets that are really solid and close to my style, then add my own touch.

Do you have a structured workflow when starting a track, or is it more about following inspiration in the moment?

I always start by building the main structure, starting with the drums and all the rhythmic parts, then move onto the melodies and quickly transition to arranging the track.

How do you decide when a track is truly finished?

I have to make myself decide, otherwise, if I overthink it, I become too much of a perfectionist and risk never being fully convinced about a track.

Do you have any specific mixing techniques you always use to achieve clarity and depth in your productions?

Balanced is the key. I do it multiple times throughout the production process and during all stages of mixing.

Finally, looking back, is there any advice you’d give your younger self when you were just starting out in music production?

Don’t be afraid to ask if you don’t know how to do something. It’s better to have it explained once more than to figure it out on your own through trial and error.
