Monday Morning Coming Undone

European synth-pop duo Close to Monday releases their eerie rendition of Duran Duran’s iconic track “Come Undone”. The newly released song serves as a prelude to their upcoming fourth EP, “Turtles”, which is dropping later this winter. Hitting you with a wave of nostalgia and taking the listener on a deep introspective journey, Close to Monday’s rework of “Come Undone” is exactly what you need to ease your seasonal depression this winter.

The opening riff of the song is oddly reminiscent of old Modest Mouse tracks, featuring the dark synth builds of 1980s bands like Joy Division, Morrissey, and Depeche Mode. The delicate vocals of lead singer Ann create a rising cinematic soundscape similar to Sweet Dreams vocalist Annie Lennox. Showcasing their ability to merge nostalgic sounds with modern sensibilities, CTM’s music is dedicated to the wallflower looking to embark on an intrinsic quest of self-discovery.

How it all came about

After discovering an old video of Ann singing Duran Durans original version of the track, it only seemed fitting to do a dark, more mature reworking of the iconic classic. The artwork for the single is a clip from that very childhood video. Laying down a modernized ominous twist than that of the original Ann’s artistic vision really shines through with this new release.

“Recording this track felt like life coming full circle,” says Ann.Duran Duran’s music was a soundtrack to my youth, and this cover allowed us to honor that influence while layering our own voice and perspective onto the song.”

Comprised of lead singer and songwriter Ann, and musical producer Alexander, Close to Monday has been receiving massive amounts of praise within the underground. Welcomed by indie synth enthusiasts, as well as the  EDM community, CTM is spreading its wings high as we head into 2025. Promptly reaching the top of everyone’s artists-to-watch list in 2025

In 2024 CTM took their atmospherically dark synth-pop sound on the road across the US. Close to Monday has big plans for 2025, with an EP slated for the new year, and we think it’s about time that more fans dive into their moody and introspective discography.”

The band’s name wasn’t chosen by accident. The goal of their music is to transport listeners to those last few minutes of sleep before Monday arrives, when seniority and joy begin to intertwine with the awareness of reality—but there’s still time for wonder and reflection. Their iconic logo was chosen from three Scandinavian rune symbols: Strength, Success, and Flow of Time. Each symbol eloquently represents the artistic vision of the band while perfectly symbolizing their mantra.

“Close to Monday Music serves as a guide for individuals on a journey of self-exploration and discovery of the world around them.”
