The MTV Video Music Awards took place last night. For dance music fans all over the world, the focus was on the Best Dance Video category. While the award is rarely even televised due to lack of interest from the public there was something that carried more weight to the award than in years before.
Avicii passed away on April 20, 2018. It shocked not only dance fans but the music industry as a whole. Only a few months prior to his passing Avicii returned from a hiatus of nearly 2 years with a 6 track self-titled EP. The stand out single from the album was ‘Lonely Together' featuring beautiful vocals by Rita Ora.
The nominees for Best Dance Video this year included:
Avicii – “Lonely Together” [ft. Rita Ora]
Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa – “One Kiss”
The Chainsmokers – “Everybody Hates Me”
David Guetta & Sia – “Flames”
Marshmello – “Silence” [ft. Khalid]
Zedd & Liam Payne – “Get Low (Street Video)”
The competition for Avicii was stiff this year. The Chainsmokers, Zedd, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, and Marshmello all have massive mean stream popularity. But Avicii pulled out a major posthumously victory. Check out the announcement below.
