ÄTNA are one of Germany’s most impressive new duos..
Returning with a powerful pastiche of synthwave, electronica and indie – ÄTNA are teasing yet another single from their forthcoming album “Major Love”. The Dresden-based duo’s unique sound, reminiscent of CHVRCHES, Grimes, and FKA Twigs, shines through in this track, which offers a tantalizing glimpse into their forthcoming album.
The song is characterised by its lush, flowing synths and captivating rhythm, embodying a sense of boundless creativity. This is a hallmark of ÄTNA’s music, as they skillfully blend artful sophistication with driving, hypnotic beats. Their decision to stay true to their roots in Dresden, away from Germany’s major music hubs, has undoubtedly allowed them to maintain their distinct identity and innovative edge.
The accompanying music video for “Major Love” is a visual feast that enhances the track’s haunting allure. Filmed live on the open sea amidst abandoned oil rigs, the video captures the duo’s raw, inspired and spontaneous creative energy. Filmed as a comment on ecology and environmental impact, the duo explain “After our appearance at the SXSW Festival in Austin, we embarked on a road trip through neglected areas of America that had been left to languish as a result of natural disasters. We spontaneously decided to stay and learn more about the people and their history. With the oyster diver, we finally decided to shoot a live video on the open sea in front of a “graveyard” of abandoned oil rigs. We’ve always enjoyed shooting one-shot videos of our live performances, but this one was the most challenging in the blazing sun and the dizzying rocking of the fishing boat!“
