Returning with an emphatic voyage through alt-pop and electronica – ÄTNA’s “Lucky Dancer” is a sonic journey that ca’t be pigeon-holed. The Dresden duo’s third studio album is a testament to their artistic evolution, showcasing their ability to craft intricate soundscapes that are workable in a club setting, or as an office playlist banger.
From the politically charged opener “Hold My Fist High,” a tribute to Iranian resistance fighters, to the introspective closer “All That I Am,” which explores themes of self-isolation and societal judgment, the album tackles a range of complex emotions and social issues. ÄTNA doesn’t shy away from confronting the harsh realities of the world, but they do so with a sense of hope and resilience.
The album’s title track, inspired by a forest fire near their studio, captures the overwhelming simultaneity of beauty and destruction. Inéz’s vocals, sometimes shimmering with distortion, sometimes crystal clear, soar over the driving rhythms, creating a sense of urgency and defiance. Tracks like “Major Love” and “That Girl Is Rollercoaster” explore the fleeting nature of existence, urging listeners to embrace the present moment.
ÄTNA’s music transcends boundaries, blending genres and influences with a fearless sense of experimentation. This album is a testament to their unique artistry and their unwavering commitment to creating music that is both meaningful and exhilarating. Their sound translates incredibly well to a live environment, with the duo performing the tracks to an exquisite level of musical competency.
