If there’s one band that refuses to stay in a single lane, it’s Makes My Blood Dance. The Brooklyn-based collective has been setting dance floors and mosh pits ablaze with their genre-defying fusion of glam, disco, and heavy metal. Now, as they prepare to drop their first full-length album Z3r02LGHT$p33D! this Halloween, the group is shifting into an entirely new dimension — one where chaos meets precision, and velocity becomes art.

From their vinyl-only release to collaborations with legends like Macy Gray, MMBD are proving that rock theatrics and electronic euphoria can coexist on the same pulse. Ahead of the drop, frontman EV0 sat down with Finest of EDM to talk about the making of the record, the band’s creative evolution, and how Z3r02LGHT$p33D! captures the adrenaline of their live shows — all at lightspeed.

Here’s our full conversation with Makes My Blood Dance ahead of the release of “Z3r02LGHT$p33D!”.

  1. Your upcoming album “Z3r02LGHT$p33D!” already sounds like a high-voltage experience just from the title alone, what inspired the name and energy behind it?

EV0: This is our first full length album since Jon Kristian and I formed the band *(2018). We released the Disco Metal EP and a batch of singles, some just on their own (Together Apart, Heaven Collides & Knowin' It Without Knowin' Why) and some from this upcoming album Z3r02LGHT$p33D! (Heavy Metal Armour, Time And A Place, Your Little Hand In Mine).  This is a big milestone and defining moment for Makes My Blood Dance. We're going to tour hard on this album globally and also produce several more singles and videos from it. We always have extras and discounts at our merch table so come pick it up at the shows, as well as online.

  1. Makes My Blood Dance has carved out a space where glam, disco, and metal collide. How does this new album push that fusion even further?

EV0: It's a vinyl only release with only 400 copies 1st generation printed. I have realized even for my own band, that listening to an artist on vinyl, the whole album side A and B, it's a complete experience. It's taken me deeper into our music and I really have not listened to music like that for a long time. It reminds me of records like Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd where you just put it on and leave it on. Makes My Blood Dance is a slightly different trip, but still profound. Sonically this album is a tremendous combined effort with us and our producers Bret "Epic" Mazur (Crazytown) and Mikal Blue (One Republic).  We also bend the genres even more with our collab with Macy Gray.  The track Lately (Feat. Macy Gray) is a re-imagined cover of one of our songs from her 2010 album and she is actually singing on the track with us as well!

  1. Without giving too much away, what kind of journey can listeners expect when “Z3r02LGHT$p33D!” officially drops?

EV0: When we play this music together, at rehearsals, it takes us all to this incredible place - just beauty and groove and cut loose.  That's what it's like at our shows - cyber-punk-esque-blade-runner-rave. Like whaaaaat???? Right, just get in the club baby and lets light it up.  There's a ballad on the record that I really feel drawn to, it's called Your Little Hand In Mine (the song was released exclusively on Youtube). We collaborated with Black Eye Media to do a very special effects gothic fairy tale video.

  1. Can you tell us a bit about how this album came together in the studio, was there a particular sound or vibe that sparked its creation?

EV0: It was a secret moment, darkness, betrayal, but love. And it was special and I suppose priceless, because that's the price we're willing to pay right?  It's a beautiful dance.

  1. There’s talk of a vinyl release timed perfectly with Halloween, what made you choose that moment, and does it tie into the spirit of the record?

EV0: Halloween....enough said.

  1. Sonically, what sets “Z3r02LGHT$p33D!” apart from your previous releases? Are we hearing a new era of MMBD starting here?

EV0: Of course, you're either living or dying and we are thriving. We have already written half the new record right behind this one. We actually road test new material at our shows so you never really know what you're gonna get you silly sonofab......tap in with your mobile # at our website and get discounts and first dibs on tickets: makesmyblooddance.com.  You will definitely hear it's the same band but leveled up majorly working.

  1. Your music often carries a cinematic pulse, if this track had a visual world or short film attached to it, what would that look like?

EV0: You're speaking my love language. That is why we make so many videos, because I love that part of it and creating and working with others.  We are in pre production right now for the single Black Summer which is on the vinyl only album Zero 2 Light Sp33d.  It's shooting in December and we are working with incredible lighting designers, dancers and choreographers, wardrobe, hair and makeup. Our video productions take days and it's like shooting a small film. Jon (J.Kristian - lead guitar).

  1. The title alone hints at speed, light, and transformation. Are there any deeper messages or emotions behind the chaos and electricity?

EV0: The moment you realize there is a connection with someone, that's the feeling. It also represents dynamics in our music. We have explored a lot more of that side, adding jams and build ups and rave-y type segways that really enhance the live experience.

  1. How does performing new, unreleased material like this shape your live show, do you test tracks out with the crowd before release?

EV0: Absolutely, the songs transform so much on the road. We have always road tested our material and it's a fun way to mix up the sets. It's fun for the band as well because most people don't hear these songs until years after they are written, produced and released.

  1. Makes My Blood Dance has always been unapologetically theatrical. What’s the performance vision for “Z3r02LGHT$p33D!” when it finally hits the stage?

EV0: We're already getting there. Jon Kristian designed insane light sequences and infrastructure that goes everywhere with us. Our lineup is amazing at this stage as well, and that adds a lot. Spacebaby has her own style and swagger and is killing it on the bass and GreX doing his thang on the beats. G has added synth pads and really augmented what is possible dynamically. 1. What can fans expect from the visual rollout, are we talking music videos, teasers, or any special vinyl art elements?

EV0: Jon and I love making these videos. We really produce them A-Z together and have found a swimlane making visuals that marry our unique sound. These videos look like musical theatre blade runner cabaret to me. Go see for yourself on makesmyblooddance.com or our Youtube Channel.

  1. As we count down to release day, what do you hope fans feel the first time they hear “Z3r02LGHT$p33D!” in full?

EV0: I am so excited for everyone, not for myself, because I've tasted it already. It's for the people that may read this, or discover us randomly on tour. Then hang out with friends and put on the vinyl. It's a trip, man. I was in my buddy's garage last week listening to a test pressing together and we just left it on. It was such a fun time, and I just never recognized that magic that you get when committing to a full record from an artist you want to hear.

  1. Finally, is this track the beginning of something larger, maybe a new album cycle, tour, or concept that’s in the works?

EV0: The entire music industry is now built around content. It probably always has been but the speed at which it's expected it definitely was past lightspeed. All that matters to the 4 of us is that the momentum and vibe and enthusiasm keeps flowing. As long as we have that we will continue to write, record, tour and make videos. We're still rising and there is no indication of burn out in the near future.
