Katy Perry has addressed the online hate she’s received in a new message to fans – see what she had to say below.
The ‘Firework’ singer on Tuesday shared a lengthy comment on a fan’s post about how Perry’s dealt with hurtful social media comments throughout her career. Perry wrote in response: “I love you guys and have grown up together with you and am so excited to see you all over the world this year! Please know I am ok, I have done a lot work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me.
She continued: “My therapist said something years ago that has been a game changer, “no one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe about yourself” and if I ever do have any feelings about it then it’s an opportunity to investigate the feeling underneath it.”

“When the “online” world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed.”
Later, she added: “I know we are healing each other in a small way when I get to do that co l’m not perfect, and I actually have omitted that word from my vocabulary, l’m on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but… I get back up and go on and continue to play the game and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS ”

It follows a rocky few weeks for Perry, who was once again subject to social media virality after fans mocked the lacklustre choreography seen on her ‘Lifetimes’ tour, which kicked off in Mexico City last week.
The tour’s commencement came after the singer announced last week the cancellation of two shows in Guadalajara in May as the venue they were meant to take place in will not be constructed in time. The tour also launched shortly after her highly criticised space flight earlier in the month. Perry was one member of the first all-female space mission in history.
During their voyage, Perry sang Louis Armstrong’s ‘What A Wonderful World’ and revealed the setlist for her upcoming ‘Lifetimes’ tour. She was later seen holding a daisy to the sky and kissing the ground upon returning from space.

The trip sparked memes and controversy, and she has also garnered criticism from other celebrities for taking the space flight. Actor Olivia Munn, for example, branded Perry “gluttonous”, Emily Ratajkowski said she was similarly “disgusted” by the space flight and Lily Allen called the mission “out of touch”, saying there was “no fucking reason” for it.
Allen has since walked back her comments: “There was actually no need for me to bring her name into it, and it was my own internalized misogyny. I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and it was just completely unnecessary to pile on with her. I disagree with what it was that they did, but she wasn’t the only person that did it. She was possibly the most famous and the one that divides people the most.”
Another point of criticism from fans comes from Perry’s continued decision to work with disgraced producer Dr. Luke, even after he was sued by Kesha for sexual assault and emotional abuse.
Perry defended her decision last year, saying: “I understand that it started a lot of conversations, and he was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with. The reality is, it comes from me. I am speaking from my own experience. The truth is, I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis, and he was one of the people to help facilitate all that.”

Later in the year, Katy Perry will hit the UK and Europe – see the full list of dates and get tickets here.
As for Perry’s new album, NME gave the record a two-star review and described it as “a serviceable but slightly dull collection on which Perry struggles to relocate her old sense of fun”.
