Gracie Abrams has declared that no man has “come close to defining pop culture” like Taylor Swift has.
Speaking to Cosmopolitan for a new cover story, Abrams was asked about the similarities and differences between herself and her mentor-figure Taylor Swift – who took her out on her record-breaking ‘Eras’ tour on several occasions.
Gracie Abrams – daughter of J.J. Abrams – told the publication: “I couldn’t be more different from Taylor. We are different in all the ways that my friends and I are different or that you and I are different. Taylor is an athlete, a brilliant businessperson, and a genius writer. She’s a grounded human being who makes time for everyone in her life. It’s been really cool to be in the orbit of a person like her.”
Abrams continued: “There’s also nothing that comes close to what she has done. People will still gaslight her and her capabilities and all this shit. But please point me to one man who has come close to defining pop culture in this way. There is nothing! But people are not ready for that conversation.”
Taylor Swift and Abrams have since become close friends, with Abrams revealing in December that the end of the ‘Eras’ tour had everyone “crying all day”: “It felt like the last day of school backstage. Everyone was walking around with their [tour] books, signing each other’s books. We were all walking around with Sharpies.”
Abrams’ ‘The Secret Of Us’ scored a four-star review from NME upon its release in June: “It’s a moment of pure pop catharsis that leans into the good, bad and messy of infatuation. In December, Abrams performed with Swift during her final leg of the latter’s blockbuster ‘Eras Tour’, with the two delivering a mash-up of ‘I Love You, I’m Sorry’ and Swift’s ‘Last Kiss’, taken from her 2010 album ‘Speak Now’.
They had previously teamed up on ‘Us’, taken from Abrams’ latest album. In November, the song was nominated at the Grammys for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, but ultimately lost out to Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars for ‘Die With A Smile’.
Elsewhere, Abrams recently announced her 2025 ‘The Secret Of Us’ Asia tour, which will see her embark on dates across Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Japan and Thailand.
