The Mercury Prize has announced the nominees for the 2018 awards, including grime MC Novelist for 'Novelist Guy' and singer Jorja Smith (pictured) for 'Lost & Found'.

Also shortlisted are King Krule, Lily Allen, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Sons of Kemet, Nadine Shah, Arctic Monkeys, Florence & The Machine, Wolf Alice, Everything Everything and Everything Is Recorded.

The winner of the prize will be announced at London’s Eventim Apollo in an awards ceremony on 20 September. Judges this year include Mistajam, Clara Amfo and Ella Eyre, among others.

The judges said: "This year’s Hyundai Mercury Prize celebrates albums by musicians at all stages of their careers, but with a shared belief in the importance of music for navigating life’s challenges – whether personal or political, falling in or out of love, growing up or looking back, angry or ecstatic.

"The music here is funny and inspiring, smart and moving. 12 amazing albums!"
