From a musical perspective, Memorial day weekend in Detroit is something special. Every year, tastemakers and dance music enthusiasts from around the world descend upon the Motor City to party, network, and share music. This year promises to be an especially vibrant experience due to a number of contributing factors.
Detroit often gets the credit for birthing, Techno; an electronic subgenre that has seen a notable uptick in popularity as American tastes refine themselves away from mainstream pop and EDM. While a far cry from its glory days as the motor capital of the world, Detroit seems to be enjoying an economic growth period, making local venues and businesses a stronger place to host large parties. Add an already strong festival season and a two year explosive trend in festival attendance worldwide, and you have the makings of what should be the best Movement weekend yet.
And what would the festival itself be without the pre and after parties to provide support? Kicking off the weekend, Sydney Blu, Vested, Primary Presents, and Activate have teamed up with Bleu in Detroit to bring a killer lineup to natives and early-arriving partygoers coming into town for the festival. After six years of hosting of Blu Parties, this event is the first of its kind to be held in Detroit. The event includes household names such as Christian Martin, Worthy, Sydney Blu, Gene Farris, The Saunderson Brothers, and rising star Landis Lapace. The headliners were announced last week, but today we are proud to announce the full lineup.
Joining us will be Soul Goodman, Andrew Choe, RJ Pickens, Derek Specs, Evan G, Justin Astro, Blu 9, Hummingbird, Lanna B, and Onlythebeat’s very own IMJUSTINBRAUN. The event, which takes place at Bleu at 10:00PM on Friday, May 27 will be live streamed on the Onlythebeat homepage. Be sure to bring ample ear protection, as we are supplementing the club’s already powerful sound system. The first wave of tickets already sold out with the last announcement, so be sure to jump on these now. With a stacked lineup during an already crowded weekend, the remaining tickets will not last long.
