When Drake's More Life playlist dropped two weeks ago, one the clear highlights was "Get It Together," which reworked South African DJ and producer 's 2008 piano-house track "Superman" with new vocals by the Toronto rapper and British singer-songwriter Jorja Smith.
In a new interview with Pigeons & Planes, the veteran artist discussed how the collaboration came about, explaining that Drake's people emailed about using the song and he sent them files. While the two have yet to meet, the producer shrugged f criticisms the rapper as a "culture vulture."
"The real reason, besides the fact that we love music, the real reason we are involved in music is to unite people. He is the biggest artist right now. That's exactly what he's doing, he's uniting us," he said. "His UK fanbase is there, the American one's stronger, Canada always follows him. It's an investment, I see it like that. He's really investing in the culture and growing it into a worldwide thing."
